Convergia Rip-Off

Yes, there are still scam and fraud businesses in US and can rip one off blatantly. Convergia is a Canada based company and has agents in India and elsewhere. I kept getting annoying calls from agents probably located in India. They would call me periodically and used to offer a great deals for calling to India. Convergia agent told me that the deal would be flat rate of $60 dollars and unlimited calls to any numbers in India from US. The first month would be free for trial. They gave me a code and asked the local carrier such as AT&T to add that code. They told me there was no paper contract and I could disconnect anytime. I could pay the bills using check or card card.

The deal sounded quite reasonable and I subscribed to it. After using for 3 days, I could not make any further calls to India. After trying for many times and waiting for long long hours, I got hold of the customer care agent. She told me my account was blocked by the computer due to over-usage. But there was no mentioning of it in the contract. Actually there was no contract (my mistake that I didn't have the proof). I immediately cancelled my subscription on phone. After a month, I got a bill of $111. They mentioned that I was charged for all the calls. Wait a minute, I was told the first month was free. It seems they didn't cancel my account. I didn't send the bill. In the second month, they send another bill of $222. I sent a check of $111 and wrote on the check "my account should be canceled as soon as this check is encashed". Now, I have a proof of cancellation. But I am still trying to resolve $111 that was charged in the second month although I made no calls.

This letter is addressed to all CONVERGIA victims:

In addition to your issues about the scammer company so called CONVERGIA, I would like to stand with you against this shameful company.
Please read the text of my letter which had been sent to them last month; and it still without any response; but , furthermore, I received today the second bill of the amount $ %50.01.
Therefore, we must do together to worn our communities through the media about those scammers.
My name: Dr. Azzam Krouma, living in : California, Land Line: 714/674 0752
Email: a_krouma@yahoo.com

Dear Sirs:
With my astonishment, I receive from you the bill number: 360272673 dated in 4/9/2009 today by mail.
I consider this bill as s scammed invoice for the following reasons:
1. After the advertising call, which was made by one of your propagandist, I asked him to grant me a free trial call in order to realize if he is a scammer or not. So, he told me that COVERGIA has an special offer for 100 minutes for US $ 14.00. It was a reasonable offer to check up your service. Then he told me that some one will contact me to give me the activation number within 4-7 days.
2. After 5 days, I received an automated call which was recorded in bad sound, the matter enforced me to contact your costumer service number 1-866-669-4357 in order to get the activation number, but after many calls, I failed to get the requested number because, in each call, I had been Held on the line by a recipient for a long time without any response.
3. After this bad experience with your costumer service department , I considered that you are un-professional company, who didn’t respect their costumers. That was a true. So that, I didn’t get any activation number and for this reason, I never used your service.
4. Now, After receiving your above mentioned invoice which showed the due amount is $ 32.oo for no service, no calls, no respect in your dealing with the costumers, I can affirm that you are trying to rip off the people through your advertizing calls.

As a conclusion, I find my self a victim, and I have the right to worn our people everywhere through the media and the internet to be alert from being a victim as I’m. This conscience duty has come due to many of scammed advertising calls, such yours, daily ring our phones to catch the potential (victims) in inappropriate manner.

Furthermore, you are requested to declare this issue asap, before the die is cast.

We are going through the exact same thing with this scam company. They fraudulently switched our landline over to themselves and charged us for 2 months usage. I have been fighting that invoice via phone, email, Better Business Bureau and finally got someone to agree that they would cancel the invoices and my account. Since then, I am receiving regular calls from Convergia collections. Go figure. Anyone have a solution?
